Advanced Occupational Therapist - T & O Therapy Service

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic Therapy Service for 33 hours per week, to provide Clinical Professional Leadership within the service.
This role involves both clinical and operational responsibilities, deputising for the Team Lead as appropriate. The successful candidate will provide a high quality, evidence based therapy service to patients admitted to hospital on a trauma and/or orthopaedic pathway. This will include, but is not exclusive to, trauma, major trauma, elective surgery, fractured neck of femur and amputee patients.
The post holder will provide highly specialist Occupational Therapist intervention for a caseload of Orthopaedic patients and offer advanced clinical reasoning within the specialism to support complex decision making.
The successful will be responsible for service development in line with current evidenced based practice and have involvement in leading audit, education and training.

Main duties of the job
To provide clinical leadership and direction to the Trauma and Orthopaedic Team. To carry own caseload and oversee caseloads of clinical staff to provide high level clinical decision making in line with current evidence based practice. The post holder will deputise for the Team Lead as necessary in managing the operations of the team.

Qualifications
* BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy or equivalent
* HCPC Registration
* Masters level clinical courses/ or equivalent
* Membership/participation of Special Interest Groups/Networks
* Professional Practice Educator Training/qualification
* Relevant management qualification or managerial specialist courses or equivalent
Skills and Abilities

Knowledge and Experience
* Extensive clinical post-graduation experience of rehabilitation of patients in relevant speciality

* Operational management, development and supervision of junior staff, students and therapy assistants
* Experience of teaching multi professional staff, students, and peers
* Experience of service evaluations and audit processes
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio, including attendance of recent post graduate courses relevant to speciality
* Experience of joint working with external organisations, academic institutes where applicable
* Have a detailed awareness of current NHS issues and relevant frameworks/quality indicators

* To be able to assess complex / terminally ill patients by carrying out a full assessment that often requires physical strength and dexterity including standing and sitting
* The work pattern is unpredictable, and concentration is required for investigating problems, analysis of performance data and policies, interruptions may be frequent where immediate response is required
* Ability to deal with distressing situations within designated service area and support staff to manage these situations
* To be able to impart distressing information to patients/carers or relatives in a sensitive and supportive way/where targets are not met, or patient has deteriorated?A/I
* To manage working in a highly pressured work environment that is busy and maintain excellent working relationships with the MDT
* Able to cope with and assist in situations that could be unpleasant e.g. bodily fluids
* Ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the post
