Senior Operations Manager - Aggregates (South West of England)
Lead regional operations. Drive performance and shape the future of our Aggregates business.
The Opportunity
This role is a high‑impact operational leadership position within Tarmac’s Aggregates business. You will be accountable for operating four quarries in the South West of England (Bristol, Coleford, Frome and Ringwood) and for leading and developing a team of managers to deliver industry‑leading health, safety, environmental performance, operational excellence, strong financial results and a resilient, future‑ready leadership pipeline.
The position reports to the Regional Operations Director and is key to shaping and delivering the annual strategy for the Aggregates business across the region.
Responsibilities
* Deliver industry‑leading safety performance.
* Own regional operational performance, cost control and productivity.
* Lead monthly KPI and performance reviews, driving measurable improvement.
* Design, own and deliver the annual strategic plan for the region.
* Accountable for overall budget and ensure financial and operational targets are met.
* Champion a continuous improvement mindset, sharing best practice and identifying innovation.
* Embed the sustainability strategy, actively identifying more sustainable ways of working.
* Align production with sales to maximise returns and minimise stock.
* Resolve production issues through robust root‑cause analysis and corrective action.
* Manage CAPEX submissions and maintain the five‑year investment and development plan.
* Work closely with the Land and Natural Resources team on quarry and estate development activities.
* Build, develop and retain a high‑performing, diverse management team.
Qualifications
* In‑depth understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation and best practice.
* Strong technical knowledge of aggregates operations, raw materials and production processes.
* Proven experience leading through managers, with excellent coaching and delegation skills.
* Commercial acumen, including setting and managing budgets and cost models.
* Strong understanding of sustainability, supply chain efficiency and environmental impact.
* Experience of minerals planning, quarry development, restoration and environmental compliance.
* Confidence in problem‑solving with robust root‑cause analysis capability.
* Strong stakeholder management skills at senior internal and external levels.
* Analytical mindset, using data and trends to drive informed operational decisions.
* Excellent organisational and strategic planning skills.
A full UK driving licence is essential as a company car or car allowance is provided with this role.
