Manchester Islamic Grammar School for Girls is an independent all-girls 11–16 secondary school located in the Fielden Campus, West Didsbury, Manchester, M20 2PQ. West Didsbury is an affluent suburb of South Manchester, offering a vibrant area that balances a cosmopolitan yet village atmosphere. Our school is perfectly situated with easy access to bus and tram routes to Manchester city centre.
We are a relatively small school of approximately 270 students. Alongside our partner schools, KD Grammar School for Boys and Manchester Muslim Preparatory School, we form part of the highly successful Manchester Islamic Educational Trust. We are proud to have been rated Outstanding in our last three Ofsted inspections.
We are seeking a reliable, hardworking, and dedicated caretaker to join our school team. This important role will ensure that our school environment is safe, clean, and well-maintained, providing the ideal setting for students and staff to thrive. We are looking for someone with excellent practical skills, a proactive attitude, and a commitment to supporting the smooth day-to-day running of our school. Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out general maintenance tasks around the school and grounds, including minor repairs and DIY tasks.
* Assist with contractors during school holidays, (typically in the Easter and Summer holiday) ensuring access to the school and supporting maintenance works.
* Be available during the Easter and summer holiday periods as required by the Headteacher, typically from 9.00am – 5.00pm, with flexibility depending on the work being completed.
* Provide support for school events, meetings, and occasionally work evenings or weekends as required.
* Ensure the security of the school site, acting as a 'Key Holder' and responding to call-outs when necessary (e.g., alarm triggers).
* Take the initiative to carry out practical DIY jobs and effectively use maintenance equipment and machinery to ensure the smooth running of the school.
* Carry out emergency cleaning duties, such as addressing spillages or accidents promptly.
* Supervision of cleaning staff.
* Move furniture and other equipment for special events or meetings.
* Maintain the school grounds, including seasonal gardening, trimming, and pruning, and clearing rubbish, leaves, and snow/ice to ensure safety and accessibility, especially for fire exits and escape routes.
* Keep accurate records of cleaning supplies and ensure orders are placed when stocks are low.
* Receipt and distribute ordered goods, materials, and equipment, ensuring that items are delivered and distributed appropriately to staff.
Skills and Experience:
* Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
* To be punctual, trustworthy and possess a good attendance record.
* To have empathy with the Islamic ethos of the school and abide by the school
* Practical DIY experience and ability to operate maintenance equipment and machinery effectively.
* Flexible 'can do' attitude, with the ability to adapt to changing needs and responsibilities.
* A driver's license and vehicle are essential for the role.
* Previous experience as a caretaker, builder, or site manager is highly desirable.
* A pleasant and approachable manner, with good communication skills.

Any such information will be treated in strictest confidence and used only in consideration of the suitability of the post. Criminal convictions will not automatically exclude you from being considered unless they fall within the threshold of being relevant and unsuitability, and will be considered on a case by case basis or as defined by the Department for Education.
