Overview
Grid Solutions Offshore HVDC projects require strong leadership to ensure on-time delivery, profitability, and customer satisfaction from the end of tendering through handover to execution and up to receipt of the Provisional Acceptance Certificate (PAC). The Project Director will lead risk and opportunity management and ensure high standards in quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements. The role coordinates with the consortium partner to ensure smooth delivery of the consortium scope for the customer.
Major Responsibilities
* Manage the Execution phase for the GE scope of a large HVDC project, typically valued at 1B$+.
* Deliver on Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), On-Time Delivery (OTD), and financial objectives (sales, margin, billing, cash) for the GE scope.
* Lead governance of Project Reviews in line with the GE Grid Solutions Operating rhythm.
* Lead and coach a multi-cultural, cross-functional project team (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Project Controls, Finance, Contract Management).
* Hold full Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility for the project and drive budget ownership throughout the project team.
* Develop and implement the project execution strategy to achieve performance goals based on the contract.
* Represent GE to the customer and manage the interface and relationship; oversee internal and external communications.
* Set up and secure necessary resources for project execution; support the organization of the project team; coordinate with consortium partner.
* Monitor performance through KPIs; take necessary actions to achieve financial, time, quality, and safety targets.
* Establish, implement, and monitor the Project Quality Plan, Procedures, and EHS Plan; ensure compliance with specifications at the lowest final cost.
* Define the strategy for managing claims and direct actions accordingly; lead decisions within the established strategy.
* Define and maintain a Risk Management Plan; regularly review risks and opportunities and implement beneficial actions; track results.
* Develop and monitor the Master Time Schedule; manage project float to ensure timely completion; perform commercial and financial controls with regular reporting and forecasting of KPIs.
* Coordinate technical support/engineering, manufacturing/supply, and onsite construction resources; comply with Quality Procedures and PMH; address non-conformances and use Lessons Learned to improve future projects.
* Lead consortium management: establish governance with partner, communicate with the customer on behalf of the consortium, and align targets and metrics for ongoing monitoring.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Master’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (preferably technical).
* Major experience in managing large and complex turnkey projects (+$500M minimum), preferably in the T&D, Power, or Renewable Energy industry.
* Experience in Operations / Project Portfolio management (EPC projects) and consortium management on large and complex projects.
* Knowledgeable in contract management, negotiation, risk, and opportunity management (note: there is a typographical error in the original text: "0pportunity").
* Structured problem-solving, strategic thinking, analytical skills; high energy, resilience with a “Run it like you own it” mindset.
* Excellent communication and cooperation skills; ability to lead an international team (30+ members) and manage stakeholders in a matrix organization.
* Ability to build trustworthy and lasting relationships with customers and partners at all levels; strong interpersonal skills reflecting leadership behaviors such as Humility, Customer Focus, and Transparency.
* Proven experience across the full project management lifecycle (integration, planning, cost control, procurement, risk management, contract management, construction management).
* Technical knowledge in electrical grids and, ideally, power electronics/HVDC; turnkey/offshore contracts with civil works experience is a plus.
* Willingness and ability to travel as required; fluent in English.
