The University of Sheffield International College is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Classroom Assistants to join our vibrant Student Experience Team! In this role, you'll play a key role in ensuring a positive start for our international students and a smooth transition to their university studies.
ABOUT THE ROLE
1. Support individual and small group learning under the supervision of the classroom tutor.
2. Guide students to improve their understanding by:
* confirming that they understand what is required of them
* encouraging reference to lecture notes and text books
* helping students to identify areas of misunderstanding
* eliciting the next step in a calculation or explanation
* encouraging students to explain the process by which they have arrived at an answer
1. Maintain, on behalf of the tutor, a record of homework completion and other administrative tasks.
2. Provide feedback to the tutor on features of the students’ learning.
3. Help students maintain focus on their learning in English.
4. Undertake marking of formative class tests and check summary marks under supervision.
ABOUT YOU
* English language competence of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent or above.
* Subject competence indicated by GCE ‘A’ Level in the relevant subject area at grade B or above or a grade of 65% or above on the relevant USIC module.
* Completion of year 1 or above of a cognate undergraduate degree.
* Ability to work independently and use own initiative while under supervision.
