Join Our Brilliant Team as an SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Bury | Full-Time | September Start Available

Ready to make a real difference every single day?

If you're someone who finds purpose in helping children feel safe, understood, and capable of learning in their own way, this could be the perfect role for you. We're currently recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to work in a specialist primary school in Bury, supporting pupils with a range of complex needs including autism, learning difficulties, and communication challenges. The work is full of purpose - every day, you'll help children take steps forward that truly matter.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant in this nurturing primary setting, you'll support children aged 4 to 11 who have moderate to severe learning difficulties, often alongside autism spectrum conditions and sensory needs. Many pupils are pre-verbal or have limited speech, and may need help with personal care, emotional regulation, and structured routines.

You'll work closely with the class teacher and a wider team of support staff and therapists to deliver highly personalised learning. This might include helping a child use PECS or Makaton to communicate, supporting learning through play and sensory activities, or providing calm, consistent support during transitions and routines. You'll also play an essential role in building children's confidence, communication, and independence - both in the classroom and during activities like outdoor play, mealtimes, or enrichment sessions.

This is a highly collaborative environment where consistency, kindness, and a strong understanding of each child's individual needs are essential. You'll be trained in the school's approaches to behaviour support and communication, and you'll be supported to grow in confidence and skill throughout your placement.

No Qualifications? That's Absolutely Fine.

We care most about your values, attitude, and experience supporting children in the UK. Whether you've worked in a school, volunteered with children, supported family members, or worked in care or health, we'd love to hear from you.

Throughout your role, you'll also have the support of a dedicated consultant who understands the school and your goals. They'll be on hand to check in regularly, offer advice, and help you plan your next steps.

Who This Role is Perfect For

* Psychology, education, or health graduates looking for real-world SEN experience before progressing into further study or training

* Care, therapy, or support professionals looking for a rewarding change of pace in an educational setting

* Experienced teaching assistants, support workers, or childcare professionals who want to specialise in SEN

* Anyone with patience, empathy, and a strong belief in inclusive, child-centred education

What You'll Need to Succeed

* Experience supporting children in any UK-based setting - this could be personal, voluntary, or professional

* A calm, flexible and child-led approach - you'll often need to adapt your day around a child's emotional and sensory needs

* A genuine interest in special needs education and a willingness to learn

* Bonus: familiarity with strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory integration techniques is he
