Position Title: Vice President, Research Management
Reports to: Executive Vice President, Research Management
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to funding research with the highest probability of preventing, slowing or reversing Alzheimer’s disease. The vision for Cure Alzheimer’s Fund was set by our founders. Frustrated with the slow pace of research about the disease, they applied their experience in venture capital and corporate startups to build an organization specifically designed to accelerate research, make bold bets, and eradicate the disease. The organization’s unwavering focus on finding a cure is made possible by our Board of Directors, Trustees, and other core donors who finance our overhead expenses so that 100% of all general donations go to support our research. The Research Management team ensures that our portfolio of funded projects meets our mission goals, that our external scientific leadership has the right information to make the best possible decisions, and, alongside our internal colleagues in the Marketing and Development teams, that our generous donor community and the public are kept well informed of what we are supporting and why it matters.
Job Description
The VP, Research Management will help manage all aspects of the research funding process: PI/project identification and recruitment, matching reviewers and projects and facilitation of the review process, management of the reporting process, and communication of results within the broader CureAlz and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) scientific contexts. They will stay current with new scientific findings and publications about AD and related areas and work closely with external scientists as applicants, reviewers, decision makers, and direction setters. They will also work closely with internal colleagues in finance and administration (ensuring grant funding works smoothly); development (speaking with donors and coordinating scientist/donor contacts); and marketing and communications (communicating the findings, value, and power of the research we support).
Required and Preferred Qualifications
* A PhD in a specialty relevant to neurodegenerative disease (preferred).
* Experience: 5-7 years of relevant professional experience following completion of graduate degree (e.g. MS, PhD or equivalent advanced degree). Candidates without an advanced degree may be considered if they demonstrate commensurate experience and expertise.
* Strong intellectual curiosity and flexibility, with an ability to think broadly across disparate areas of scientific development.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information clearly and accessibly to a wide range of audiences both verbally and in writing. Examples of your writing or recorded talks may be requested.
* High standards for accuracy of both gist and details of their work product.
* Capacity to travel on an occasional, planned basis, primarily to scientific conferences.
* Commitment to working supportively and cooperatively across CureAlz and external partners.
* Enthusiasm to accelerate the science vital to finding effective treatments and a cure for AD.
* Experience with grant writing and/or grant management preferred.
* Familiarity with diverse methods and recent technological advances in neuroscience research.
* Strong project and time management skills with the ability to manage competing requests.
* Compassion and empathy for those facing the impact of AD.
* Experience and comfort with remote work and building professional relationships at a distance.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
* This role requires domestic and international travel on an occasional, planned basis, primarily to scientific conferences and home office meetings.
* This role is full-time, but working hours may be flexible depending on circumstances.
* This role can be fully remote or hybrid. It does not require residence in our local area (Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts).
Salary and Benefits
* Expected annual salary range for this position is $175,000 - $225,000. Final salary will be commensurate with experience.
* Employees (and their families) are eligible to enroll in benefits per eligibility rules. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance.
* Benefits also include a 401K plan, paid time off and 13 holidays per year.
