Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry - Outpatients
Job ref: 311-M240-25-G. Grade: Consultant (Permanent). Hours: Full time – 10 sessions per week.
Site: Cherrywood Clinic, Oldham Town, Oldham. Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per annum (pro rata). Closing date: 03/06/2026 23:59.
About the Role
The consultant will provide adult psychiatry services to the Central sector of Oldham (South and East Oldham – Chadderton; Royton and Shaw; Delph, Uppermill, Lees, Ashton Under Lyne). The role includes outpatient clinics at Cherrywood Clinic and Werneth Primary Care Centre (1.5 mi from the hospital), community/home visits, and participation in local service user & carer groups. The post will also involve teaching medical and nursing staff and supporting research projects (e.g., Bright Mind, Fresh START, Gamechange). The post will be the first NHS provider of a new state‑of‑the‑art Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) suite in the North West.
Responsibilities
* Provide assessment, treatment and management of adults with psychiatric disorders in community and outpatient settings.
* Work collaboratively with East, South and West sector CMHTs, the Care Management and Review Team, and other sector consultants.
* Conduct inpatient, home treatment and A&E liaison as required.
* Deliver teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate medical and nursing staff.
* Contribute to clinical audit, research and service evaluation initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Medical Degree
* MBChB or equivalent
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
GMC Registration
* Full registration with GMC
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
Specialist Register
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of appointment
Approved Clinician Status
* Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
S12 Approval
* Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Knowledge in Psychiatry
* Excellent knowledge in adult psychiatry including a range of conditions and complex psychological problems
* Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to the post
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (Exception Order). A DBS check will be required.
