JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Heebner Career Development Center (HCDC) at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is seeking a collaborative, relationship-driven Assistant Director of Alumni Career Development to strengthen alumni engagement in student career development and employer partnerships, and to advance lifelong career support for alumni.
WPI provides career development services to alumni for life, and this role plays a key part in designing and delivering alumni-focused career programming, supporting alumni career growth, and translating alumni expertise into exploration, networking, mentoring, and opportunity for current students.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of the Heebner Career Development Center, the Assistant Director will lead alumni career engagement initiatives and contribute to a cohesive, student- and alumni-centered career ecosystem.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities:
1. Create and facilitate structured opportunities for alumni to engage with students through mentoring, panels, events, and career exploration activities.
2. Design and deliver scalable career development programming for alumni at all career stages (e.g., advising, webinars, workshops, networking, career transitions).
3. Support alumni and parent hiring managers and alumni-affiliated and WPI parent-affiliated employers in connecting with WPI students for internships, co-ops, and full-time roles. Partner with employer engagement colleagues to translate alumni interest into sustainable recruiting pipelines.
4. Track participation and outcomes to inform program assessment and continuous improvement.
5. Collaborate with alumni relations, academic departments, and campus partners to align outreach while maintaining a career-focused scope. Represent the office to constituents on-campus and off-campus, and serve on university committees and initiatives as needed.
6. Assist with employer outreach activities, plan and participate in employer site visits, and stay up to date on employment trends and career development issues.
7. Remain current with industry trends and the changing employment marketplace, best practices in recruiting, and emerging STEM career fields.
8. Contribute to data collection (including annual surveys and phone campaign) and reporting for career outcomes and assessment.
9. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
10. Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree preferred.
11. Minimum of 3 years of experience managing programs, events, or volunteer-based initiatives.
12. Experience working with employers or hiring managers on talent pipelines or early-career recruiting.
13. Experience supporting alumni career development or lifelong learning initiatives.
Salary Grade 6: $54,400 – $63,000 per year (depending on experience)
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
