Legal Counsel
At Gearset, we’re on a mission to revolutionise DevOps for Salesforce, and we’re looking for the third member of our growing in‑house legal team. Our small but mighty legal team provides a pragmatic and customer‑facing legal function to a top tech company with an impressive track record and ambitious growth plans. Partnering closely with the other teams, this opportunity will give an ambitious commercial lawyer the chance to work in a supportive and highly entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Accelerate Gearset’s growth by partnering with Sales and Customer Success to review, negotiate and close commercial agreements with large and complex customers, balancing legal risk against commercial goals.
* Solve a variety of legal and business challenges in a fast‑moving, focused, and collaborative environment.
* Educate Gearcitizens on the latest legal and regulatory developments that may impact our business, keeping abreast of changes.
* Recommend ways to improve and scale our processes and reduce friction, enabling rapid growth.
* Provide expert, pragmatic legal advice on a wide range of business matters in close collaboration with the Legal and Compliance Manager and existing Legal Counsel.
* Support Sales and Customer Success functions to ensure quick and effective win of customer opportunities.
* Advise and assist internal teams with legal challenges as they arise.
* Ensure compliance with national and international data protection legislation, advising on data processing agreements and internal data protection processes.
* Work closely with IT and Engineering as AI tools become integral to our software.
* Help shape and develop the legal function as we scale and streamline operations.
About You
* Proactive junior/mid‑level UK‑qualified lawyer with proven post‑qualification experience.
* Experience reviewing and negotiating technology/SaaS agreements (private practice or in‑house).
* Ability to balance ideal legal outcomes with commercial realities.
* Comfortable leading contract negotiations and building relationships with stakeholders.
* Good understanding of UK and EU data protection laws (US knowledge helpful).
* Exceptional writing skills and attention to detail.
* Strong prioritisation and focus in a constantly evolving environment.
* Excited to help a rapidly growing company scale its legal function.
* Willingness to learn when uncertain, confident in finding solutions.
Great to Haves
* Experience in Enterprise level SaaS MSA and DPA negotiations.
* Interest in AI and knowledge of the developing regulatory framework.
* Experience on the buyer side of SaaS deals.
Salary and Benefits
* Salary of £65,000 – £75,000, depending on experience.
* Full‑time, Monday to Friday, with flexible home‑working (2–3 days a week in office).
