Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Herdsperson to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily care and management of our dairy herd, working with VMS technology to ensure optimal production and cow health.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage day-to-day operations of the herd, including health checks, and general welfare of the cows.
* Operate and maintain Voluntary Milking Systems (VMS), ensuring optimal performance, cleanliness and smooth operation.
* Monitor the health and performance of the herd, identifying any issues early and working with the farm management team to address them.
* Assist in the management of cow reproduction, including heat detection and breeding using Cow Manager Software.
* Record and track data related to cow health, milk production, and overall herd performance.
* Work with the team and vet to implement best practices in herd management and animal husbandry.
* Ensure compliance with all health and safety, environmental, and biosecurity standards.
Requirements:
* Previous experience working with VMS or in dairy farm operations is preferred.
* A solid understanding of dairy herd management practices.
* Strong attention to detail and an ability to work independently.
* Good communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
* Ability to operate farm machinery and equipment as required.
* A strong work ethic and a genuine passion for animal welfare.
* Flexibility to work weekends and early/late shifts as needed.
Desirable:
* Experience with record-keeping and farm management software including Uniform, Delpro and Cow Manager.
* Qualifications in AI and Foot Trimming.
