Health Care Assistant – 1 Year Fixed Term Maternity Cover

We are looking for an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our well-established nursing team for 1 year to cover maternity leave. Working on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, you will be working in our busy, friendly East Northants practice.
Core Responsibilities
* Phlebotomy
* Vaccinations as appropriate to role (given under Patient Specific Direction).
* Undertake wound care, cleansing, irrigating and assessing wounds, applying a variety of dressings using appropriate techniques.
* Removal of staples and sutures
* Undertake new patient health checks
* Carry out baseline observations recording findings accurately
* Facilitate routine and 24‑hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
* Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
* Carry out BMI checks as directed
* Act as a chaperone as required
* Carry out ear irrigation
* Carry out ECGs as requested
* Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
* Provide support during minor operations as required
* Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
* Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with infection control protocol
* Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
* Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
Secondary Responsibilities
* Participate in practice audit as directed
* Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
* Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
* Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
Qualifications
Essential
* Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4)
* Wound care
* Experience of working in a primary care or hospital setting
* Experience of working with the general public
Desirable
* Experience of accurately recording clinical notes using EMIS Web.
* Competent in administering vaccinations
