About the Role Ready to lead engineering excellence on one of Europe’s most complex nuclear infrastructure programmes? Keen to shape the next generation of low‑carbon power while growing your technical influence? At EDF, Success is Personal – and your career journey is yours to shape. The Opportunity As a Mechanical Calculation Team Lead, you’ll oversee the full spectrum of mechanical stress analysis and structural assessment activities across piping systems and supports of nuclear and conventional island. You’ll lead a team of calculation engineers, ensuring high‑quality technical outputs, driving continuous improvement, and acting as the technical referent for complex analytical topics. EDF EPR Engineering UK delivers the design for nuclear island buildings, systems, and equipment for Hinkley Point C and similar projects. Working as part of an integrated team, EPR Engineering supports construction and commissioning while preparing design‑replication feasibility and related engineering activities. This hybrid role is based at HinkleyPointC, with flexibility to work from home. You’ll typically spend at least three days a week collaborating with colleagues, partners and stakeholders to progress key engineering milestones. Who You Are We’re looking for a Mechanical Calculation Lead who brings technical depth, autonomy and strong delivery focus. Do you offer… A master’s degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent scientific/engineering discipline). Significant experience in mechanical calculations within the nuclear sector. Strong knowledge of EUROCODE, ASME and RCC‑M, plus advanced capability with 2D/3D design and analysis tools (PDMS, NavisWorks, PIPESTRESS, RSTAB, ANSYS APDL/Workbench). Expertise in piping and support calculation methods, supported by experience working in multicultural project environments. Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and meet commitments. Desirable familiarity with EPR/HPC projects, nuclear building specificities (NI, CI, BoP), and a proactive, rigorous and self‑driven approach to problem‑solving. What You’ll Be Doing Leading mechanical stress analysis activities, including piping flexibility, support design, FEA studies, and dynamic/seismic assessments for nuclear structures. Leading the calculation community across all disciplines within JDO-DT. Providing multidisciplinary technical support, responding to site requests (RFI, FCR, NCR), and preparing technical documentation for design and installation. Coordinating with installation contractors, civil works, Back Office and other disciplines to resolve technical queries and ensure alignment with project requirements. Supporting drawing production by guiding CAD teams on accurate 2D/3D design deliverables. Leading the calculation group, managing workload distribution, performing technical reviews, driving process improvements, and acting as the technical referent for all calculation activities. Pay, Benefits and Culture Alongside a competitive salary, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.
