We are looking to appoint a Worship Pastor to work for 20 hours/ week in this capacity. However, if a candidate was looking for a full-time position, we would be open to discussing the possibility of combining this with another suitable role eg Outreach, Communication & Media, Young Adults, Pastoral…
Outline of Responsibilities:
General
• To be a full member of the Staff Team. To attend weekly staff meetings and prayer times.
• To liaise with other leaders in the church to ensure a focused and creative message through word and worship, and smooth running throughout services.
Specific
• To inspire and lead the worship teams at SML building on current strengths and developing fresh expressions and initiatives
• To research, plan and arrange music for the weekly Sunday Services, in consultation when appropriate with other worship leaders and the Clergy
• To lead regular rehearsals for musicians and vocalists, of both Morning & Evening worship bands
• To identify and release new worship leaders through nurture, training and discipleship
• To oversee any interns in the Worship Department
• In time, to develop (alongside the Children's and Youth Pastors) worship in Kids' Church, Youth & other gatherings
• To encourage the spiritual growth of the Worship teams
Faith & Character
We are looking for a Worship Pastor who:
• lives out their faith with integrity, as we believe that how a person lives outside of worship leading is vitally important.
• is passionate about Jesus, and fully committed to the vision and values of SML.
• is humble and self-aware, with strong emotional intelligence and excellent interpersonal skills.
• has a mature faith, is growing in the likeness of Jesus, and is open to the renewing work of the Holy Spirit.
• is committed to personal and corporate prayer.
• is teachable, and happy to work at the direction of the leadership.
• has a sense of humour, is friendly and able to connect with the church community.
• can work well as part of a team.
Our Worship Pastor will be:
• an accomplished singer and musician, with a wide knowledge of contemporary worship
• able to lead worship with an instrument (normally guitar/keyboard) as well as voice, and work with different instrumentalists and vocalists
• experienced in leading contemporary charismatic, Holy Spirit-inspired corporate worship, including leading people into an experience of the Holy Spirit.
• experienced in leading worship in a breadth of contexts, including more traditional forms
• proactive in introducing new worship songs to the church, including those for all ages.
• able to oversee our PA and VP teams, being familiar with modern worship production technology.
Team Building
Our Worship Pastor will be:
• able to recruit, motivate and encourage our musicians, singers, and technical teams.
• capable of teaching and training singers and musicians in developing their gifts and skills, and in their understanding of the theology of worship.
• able to identify, release, nurture and mentor new worship leaders.
Management
Our Worship Pastor will have:
• strong organisational, time management and communication skills.
• an ability to delegate well where necessary.
• experience in planning and managing budgets.
• a clear understanding of church copyright licensing.
• effective digital and office software skills.
In addition, the following skills and experiences are desirable:
• networking, resourcing and encouraging other worship leaders in the local area.
• writing new worship songs on your own or in collaboration with others.
• some theological and/or worship ministry training.
• experience of worship planning software, such as Planning Centre and ProPresenter, and church management systems e.g. ChurchSuite.
Support and Accountability
• Responsible to the Vicar
Working Hours and Pay
• Working hours – 20 hrs/week (potential for full-time in a combined ministry post)
• Salary – depending on experience range B4 –A1 £29,120-£32,760 pro rata
• Opportunity to join Staff pension scheme
• Bank Holidays and 6 weeks holiday per year.
