Job summary

An exciting opportunity has opened up for you to join our accredited wards at Riverside Centre. At CNWL, we are committed to working at the highest standards of clinical excellence. Riverside wards are AIMS accredited (Accreditation for Inpatient Mental Health Services), recognised and awarded by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Through our training and development opportunities, many of our Band 5 Nurses have been promoted to Band 6 roles, and we support Nurses to complete further training to develop their careers. We are committed to promoting staff development and retention and will offer you these same opportunities.

Main duties of the job include engagement in Quality Improvement projects to continually improve service-user experiences and outcomes. Our new ward will provide ample scope for progression into clinical and managerial positions, enabling you to broaden your horizons and take on new challenges.

Patient Safety

Band 5 nurses contribute by:

* Using clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep service users safe
* Safeguarding people and escalating concerns when necessary
* Being open and transparent about practice

* Reflecting on practice to identify improvements in safety or quality
* Working with others to create a culture of continuous improvement
* Maintaining accurate records and mandatory training compliance

The NMC code of conduct and annual registration are required for all nurses.


Clinical Outcomes

Band 5 nurses contribute to the effectiveness of services by:

* Providing skilled, evidence-based nursing care adhering to policies and procedures
* Working with patients and families in care planning, assessing risks and needs
* Advocating for patients within the multidisciplinary team
* Working as autonomous practitioners within their competency
* Contributing to high-performing teams through clear communication and reflective practice


Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

* Essential: Registered NMC Nurse Mental Health
* Desirable: Mentorship or equivalent; completion of preceptorship programme

Previous Experience

* Essential: Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care; accurate record-keeping; knowledge of medication rounds and safe administration; practical experience of high-quality care
* Desirable: Experience in Acute Mental Health; facilitating group work; managing other staff

Skills and Abilities

* Ability to build constructive relationships with warmth and empathy; effective communication with colleagues and service users
* Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team; use of initiative; understanding of needs of people with mental health problems
* Ability to supervise and support junior staff and students; prioritise workload; implement person-centred care
* Desirable: experience in taking charge of a ward

Knowledge and Understanding

* Up-to-date knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and amendments
* Knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct; Care Programme Approach framework
* Knowledge of risk assessment and management; current developments in mental health care
* Respect for service users with dignity and cultural sensitivity; maintain patient confidentiality; understanding of clinical governance
