We're working with a market-leading student accommodation provider, who are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join their Central Support team. This established business operates across 21 cities throughout the UK, managing over 10,000 purpose-built student beds and working closely with university partners to create exceptional student experiences.
This position offers the chance to work within a rapidly growing organisation that prioritises professional development and collaborative working. You'll be supporting payroll operations for a diverse workforce across multiple locations, gaining exposure to complex payroll scenarios whilst working alongside experienced professionals who value accuracy and efficiency.
Key responsibilities
* Process new starter information and liaise with HR and site managers for accurate payroll setup
* Handle monthly site amendments and obtain necessary approvals from senior management
* Maintain payroll system updates and process leaver calculations including holiday pay
* Support monthly payroll submissions and review preview reports for accuracy
* Produce monthly journals and reconcile key payroll ledgers including Wages Control and PAYE
* Assist with year-end activities, P11D submissions and third-party audit enquiries
* Stay current with payroll regulations and tax law changes to ensure compliance
* Support additional reporting requirements and ad-hoc duties as needed
Requirements
* Previous payroll experience essential
* Progress towards or commitment to pursuing CIPP/ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualifications
* Exceptional attention to detail with strong numeracy skills
* Ability to handle confidential information with complete discretion
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software packages
* Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
* Strong organisational skills with ability to work independently
* Proactive problem-solving approach with methodical working style
