This role focuses on Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), working across major infrastructure programmes.

About The Business Unit
Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers project, programme & commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health, and care sectors. APD offers services to projects up to £20bn, through disciplines including programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting and education, health and care management.
Overview Of The Role
We are seeking a Consultant to join our dynamic IDC team. This is an opportunity for someone with hands-on experience in DfMA and MMC, who is passionate about driving innovation and digital transformation in the built environment. Whether you’re recently chartered or working towards professional accreditation with a recognised body (e.g., ICE, IStructE, IMechE, IET, CIAT, CIBSE, CIOB, RICS, RIBA), this role offers the chance to shape the future of construction delivery across major infrastructure programmes. You will help embed IDC, supporting clients to improve productivity and cost certainty across Buildings, Water & Environment, and Nuclear sectors.
You will support the delivery of strategic and technical advisory services across buildings, water, transport, and energy on existing and future commissions as IDC advisors to major infrastructure owners and programmes in the UK and overseas. You’ll work with clients, design teams, manufacturers, and contractors to embed DfMA, MMC, and platform-based approaches into projects and programmes.
Key Responsibilities And Duties
* Support the development and implementation of IDC strategies across client portfolios and programmes, contributing to measurable improvements in delivery efficiency and consistency
* Apply DfMA and MMC principles to optimise design, delivery, and operational outcomes—demonstrating value through improved constructability, reduced waste, or enhanced programme certainty
* Contribute to the creation and use of standardised tools, methods, and delivery models, embedding repeatable, scalable solutions across projects
* Assist in the development of IDC metrics and performance indicators, enabling data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement
* Support creation of case studies, lessons learned, and a library of IDC approaches, ensuring knowledge is captured and applied
* Engage in capacity building, including mentoring staff and contributing to internal knowledge sharing
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure IDC principles are integrated from concept to completion
* Contribute to the development of digital tools and data models to support industrialised delivery
* Participate in client workshops, stakeholder engagement, and delivery assurance activities

Essential
* Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field
* Working towards or recently achieved chartership with a recognised professional body
* Demonstrable experience applying DfMA, MMC, or platform-based approaches
* Strong communication and collaboration skills
* Self-motivated, accountable, and able to work independently or in a multidisciplinary team
* Proactive, curious mindset with willingness to learn and challenge the status quo
* Understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work (or equivalents) and its application to delivery
* Experience on programmes/projects across Buildings, Water & Environment and/or Transport infrastructure
Desirable
* Experience with systems engineering and requirements management tools
* Proficiency in digital delivery and DfMA implementation
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a strategic mindset
* Knowledge of Lean principles and logistics
* Understanding of supply chain ecosystems for Industrialised construction
* Awareness of manufacturing/assembly processes and materials decisions
* Familiarity with Power BI, Revit, or parametric design tools
* Professional memberships or certifications (e.g., Lean Construction Institute, BuildingSMART) are a plus
