Piccadilly Construction, our in-house Construction Management Team, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Managing Buyer to lead the company's purchasing and procurement activities. This role requires someone to oversee the buying department, ensuring effective procurement for our construction and maintenance projects.
* Negotiate optimal supply chain arrangements with key materials suppliers.
* Develop long-term strategic relationships with suppliers to maximize economies of scale.
* Schedule and place material and plant orders, optimizing for cost and quality.
* Review Architects/Engineers drawings for discrepancies and compliance with material specifications, resolving any issues with relevant consultants or architects.
* Produce material cost schedules and budgets for new projects, monitoring costs to stay within budgets.
* Create schedules for material enquiries, obtain quotations from suppliers, and assess their accuracy.
* Report and project material cost increases as they occur.
* Resolve invoice queries with the accounts team.
* Conduct on-site material checks and produce reports as needed.
* Visit sites regularly to ensure proper supplies and materials are available.
* Negotiate arrangements with suppliers and raise orders for various business needs, including property maintenance, sales, and marketing, where strategic procurement adds value.
* Maintain effective relationships to ensure successful project delivery with all stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, in-house teams, consultants, and advisors.
* Perform other duties as required by the employer.
About You:
* Demonstrable understanding of construction industry procurement.
* Knowledge of effective buying functions within the construction sector.
* Understanding of the materials supply chain.
Skills:
* A proactive, positive attitude with a willingness to challenge norms, and a commercially minded approach.
* Excellent financial and numerical skills, including budget and cash flow management.
* Strong planning and prioritization abilities.
* Experience controlling and managing costs.
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in procurement within a construction business.
