Position Details
Consultant in Microbiology
Full-Time - 10 PAs per week
The post holder will join a team of seven Consultants responsible for Bacteriology/Virology and Infection Prevention and Control services at NHS Tayside. The department has recently received significant investment in new technology and laboratory space, pioneering automated molecular diagnostics in Scotland.
Department Overview
The department, located at Ninewells Hospital, conducts over 325,000 investigations annually. It utilizes advanced platforms such as MALDI-TOF, BacTAlert, Vitek 2, Cepheid GeneXpert, Siemens Centaur, Diasorin Liaison, Hologic Panther, and SeeGene, alongside real-time PCR assays. The department is UKAS accredited and linked to electronic test requesting systems.
Responsibilities
* Providing diagnostic, treatment, and IPC advice across the health board.
* Participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota (1:7), with associated payments.
* Collaborating with clinical areas including ICU, surgical HDU, orthopaedics, and Neonatology.
* Supporting professional activities and continuous professional development.
Qualifications
Applicants should have GMC registration, a license to practice, and be on the specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT or CESR (CP). Consideration is given to those with appropriate training and experience not yet on the register, including locum options.
