We are recruiting a fixed-term role, up to 2 years, for someone with experience working in or regulating energy sectors, including various scales of combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors, which will need to decarbonise by 2050 while doubling electricity production. Through effective regulation, we must ensure that energy sectors protect people and the environment from emissions, and mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
You’ll need to:
Responsibilities
* provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training
* develop strategy for our sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes
* commission and manage external research projects where needed
* work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be asked to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
The Team
The Energy & COMAH team are part of Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate. Our technical experts lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction and tools in support of regulation, guidance and training to deliver new duties, and environmental best practice.
In E&B we use evidence, expertise, and innovation to enhance and support delivery, influence policy, legislation and secure resources.
Experience/Skills Required
* ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work
* relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role, gained either by working within and/or regulating relevant processes; knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant
* ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia
* ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals
