Job Description
As a Production Assistant at OUBAS, you’ll play a vital part in our studio’s day-to-day operations—helping to ensure our knitwear is finished to the highest standards and our studio runs smoothly. This hands-on role is perfect for someone with a passion for sustainable fashion, great attention to detail, and a can-do attitude.
This position can be part or full time (24-37.5hrs) contract for the right candidate and ideally you must have experience within knitwear production specifically.
Our workshop is based in Flookburgh, on the edge of the Lake District. The nearest train station is Cark-in-Cartmel which is a 10 minute walk away.
Role:
* Inspect finished garments for consistency, fit, and quality—spotting and reporting any faults or issues.
* Check measurements and ensure all items meet OUBAS quality standards before packaging.
* Help maintain a tidy, organised workspace—restocking materials, managing waste, and caring for equipment
* Assist with inventory management, including tracking stock levels of yarns, trims, and packaging
* Support the team with day-to-day studio tasks, including preparing orders for dispatch and helping with studio events or customer visits
* Aid in providing garment care and repair services, following OUBAS guidelines for mending and maintenance
* Work closely with the production team, designers, and studio manager to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality products.
* Contribute ideas for process improvements and support an open, positive studio culture
Linking is a method of seaming/attaching pieces of a knitted garment together after the pieces have been knitted on our flatbed knitting machines. The linking process requires a skilled operator with a strong attention to detail.
This is an ideal opportunity for an individual with good hand/eye coordination skills and who enjoys close attention to detail to join our team. You will ideally have previous knitwear point-to-point linking experience on a linking machine dealing with knitwear and individual stitch control however we can offer training.
Experience and knowledge of knitwear and garment construction would be advantageous.
You must be able to work to a high standard consistently, have an eye for detail and a positive, can-do attitude to your work.
We can provide flexible working hours to fit around school runs and can accommodate different finishing and start times within reason. We genuinely want an additional team member to join our workshop, so if you feel this is for you then please apply.
Full training can be offered.
