Head of eCommerce to advise AHO on eshop - Volunteer
The Africa Health Organisation (AHO) is evolving. It aims to create an online shop system to enhance sustainability and positively impact more lives by providing robust health and social care in Africa. We seek assistance in creating an effective e‑commerce system and strategy.
Responsibilities
* Drives sales and growth
o Boosts revenue – develop and implement digital marketing strategies, including SEO, paid ads, and email campaigns, to increase website traffic and convert visitors into paying customers.
o Increases conversion rates – optimise the website’s user experience (UX), reduce cart abandonment, and ensure a seamless path to purchase, including A/B testing different site elements to see what performs best.
o Expands market presence – identify and manage new sales opportunities, such as launching products on marketplaces or exploring social commerce, to reach a broader audience.
o Manages promotions – plan and execute strategic sales and promotions to attract new customers and drive revenue growth.
* Enhances the customer experience
o Optimises website performance – oversee the day‑to‑day management of the online store, ensuring it is user‑friendly, loads quickly, and is optimised for both desktop and mobile devices.
o Improves on‑site content – ensure all product listings feature high‑quality images, accurate descriptions, and relevant information, which helps build customer confidence and drive sales.
o Creates personalised journeys – use customer data to implement personalisation strategies, like targeted product recommendations, that guide shoppers through the sales funnel.
o Oversees customer service – manage customer service teams or processes to ensure inquiries are handled promptly and professionally, increasing satisfaction and retention.
* Shapes business strategy
o Provides data‑driven insights – analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) such as traffic, conversion rate, and average order value (AOV) and report these insights to stakeholders to inform and guide broader business strategy.
o Manages budgets – oversee budgets for digital marketing and other e‑commerce initiatives, ensuring a profitable return on investment.
o Conducts competitive analysis – research competitor activities and stay updated on market trends to keep the company competitive and adapt strategies.
o Coordinates cross‑departmentally – serve as a vital link between marketing, IT, logistics, and other departments to ensure all online activities align with company goals and are executed smoothly.
* Key Responsibilities
o Strategic leadership – develop and execute a comprehensive e‑commerce strategy aligned with broader AHO goals using WooCommerce on WordPress.
o Performance management – monitor and analyse KPIs such as website traffic, conversion rates, and revenue, and report progress to the executive team.
o Budget oversight – take ownership of the e‑commerce budget, managing expenditure on marketing campaigns, technology, and staffing to meet sales and profit targets.
o Digital marketing – oversee all online marketing channels, including SEO, PPC, email marketing, and social media, to increase brand visibility and attract new customers.
o Website management and optimisation – manage the e‑commerce platform, ensuring a seamless and visually appealing user experience; continually test and optimise performance to improve conversion rates and reduce barriers to sale.
o Omnichannel integration – work with the operations team to optimise omnichannel services such as click‑and‑collect, returns, and in‑store ordering, creating a unified customer experience.
o Team leadership – build, lead, and mentor a high‑performing e‑commerce team that may include managers for content, trading, and digital marketing.
o Vendor and partner relations – manage relationships with third‑party vendors and agencies, including payment processors, logistics partners, and digital agencies.
o Market analysis – keep up to date with the latest e‑commerce trends and technologies, monitor the competitive landscape, and identify opportunities for business growth.
Qualifications
* Education – a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field such as marketing, business, or IT is preferred.
* Senior‑level experience – five years of proven experience in a senior e‑commerce role with a track record of delivering significant online revenue growth.
* Strategy development – proven experience developing or scaling businesses through online channels, with strong commercial acumen.
* Digital and technical knowledge – extensive knowledge of digital sales, including performance marketing channels (SEO, PPC), and a deep understanding of e‑commerce technologies and platforms (e.g., Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce).
