Post No. EDSCH01720 - Class Teacher with Middle Leadership TLR 2a Responsibilities Upper Phase Leader of Learning (Y4-6) - Glan Usk Primary School Required for September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter The Headteacher and Governing Body of Glan Usk Primary School are seeking an innovative and passionate practitioner to lead and drive forward key areas of school improvement in the Upper Phase of the school. We are looking for somebody who: - Is an outstanding practitioner, inspirational and forward thinking - Is enthusiastic, motivated, and caring and able to nurture children to achieve their potential - Is passionate about providing exciting, creative and challenging learning opportunities for all pupils, which enhance their literacy, numeracy and digital skills - Is a committed team player and role model with proven ability to lead, challenge and empower children and colleagues - Is able to demonstrate and promote excellence, equity and high expectations of achievement and behaviour - Is able to build a relationship of mutual respect with the pupils, parents, staff and the Governing Body - Is able to bring passion, energy, enthusiasm and be driven to fulfil the role to the best of their ability The Area of Responsibility will fall under the Schools as a Learning Organisation Model. The area of focus may evolve in line with school improvement priorities. Outline of the roles and responsibilities: To provide professional leadership and management for the phase and be accountable for high quality learning, efficient and effective use of resources and improved standards of teaching and learning for all learners. - To act as a role model of good classroom practice for other teachers, modelling effective strategies with them. - To be accountable for promoting effective Teaching and Learning and stimulating learning environments across the phase. - To evaluate the outcomes of effective Teaching and Learning across the phase and contribute to the self evaluation process of the school. - To ensure continuity and progression in learning across the phase in line with the School Improvement Plan. - To be able to motivate and support other staff. To encourage a shared understanding of the contribution that the school makes to all aspects of learners' lives. - To develop strategic plans for the phase which identify clear targets, timetables and success criteria, in the context of the School Improvement Plan and inform the Governing Body. - To monitor and evaluate progress against identified targets. - To be accountable for standards of achievement in the phase, based on prior attainment. - Analyse progress through use of appropriate assessments, data and records to make measurable contributions to whole school improvement. - To work with Governors, families, community and students in order to obtain the best possible communication and education for the pupils in the phase they lead. - To monitor and manage standards of behaviour. - Provide support, challenge and information to all colleagues within the phase. - To take initial responsibility for the pastoral care and wellbeing of staff and pupils within the phase. - To be an active member of LAST. The successful candidates will assist us in driving the school forward and putting our mission to Excite, Challenge and Empower into action through a commitment to: - Making learning irresistible. - Striving for excellence and equity. - Nurturing our community. Our whole school approach to wellbeing is the golden thread which binds the culture and ethos of the school together. Our values, daily interactions with each other, our relationships, our practice and pedagogy, all systems and processes are underpinned by 5 key elements which help us in putting the vision into action. Applicants should demonstrate how the following 5 elements: Safety, Belonging, Agency, Efficacy, Love and Care, will be an integral part of their leadership role and how this will have an impact on learning and outcomes. The appointment process will involve a lesson observation and an interview with the Headteacher, senior leaders and members of the Governing Body. The Governing Body and Local Authority are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS).
