This role leads the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU), and is responsible for removing the financial benefit from criminals.

As ECU Manager you will lead a specialist team and act as the strategic lead for financial investigations to ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). You will work proactively to continually improve and enhance ways of working.

You will manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laudering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, providing strong leadership, development, and performance management. The role involves collaboration with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships and Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency and HMRC) and influencing senior stakeholders to support Environment Agency priorities.

Alongside ECU responsibilities, you will support the wider organisation in understanding POCA, sharing lessons, contributing to changes in technical documentation, and advising enforcement officers nationwide.

The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams – Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigations Team – with Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and handles serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.


Responsibilities

* Lead the Economic Crime Unit and oversee two Team Leaders and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer.
* Provide strategic leadership for financial investigations and POCA compliance.
* Motivate, develop and manage team performance and delivery.
* Collaborate with internal and external partners to influence senior level priorities and enforcement actions.
* Improve working practices and share lessons across the organisation; advise other enforcement officers nationwide.
* Support wider organisational improvements and understanding of POCA legislation.
* Contribute to technical documentation changes and knowledge sharing.


Experience/Skills Required

* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience in leading a dispersed team.
* Good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act.
* Experience in:
* Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding of the National Intelligence Model
* Communicating effectively, including delivering feedback, managing performance and building relationships with external stakeholders
* Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it

This is a hybrid working role with flexible arrangements from home and your nearest office. Travel across the country for meetings and operational duties may be required. Incident response is a central part of the role, with possible additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments are available to support you.
