OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Head Chef at Human Kind Café leads the delivery of high-quality, nourishing vegan and vegetarian dishes, while helping lead a positive, inclusive kitchen environment. This role combines culinary creativity with a commitment to our social mission, supporting skill development, sustainability, and community connection.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS
* Plan and prepare seasonal, sustainable vegan and vegetarian menus
* Lead service and ensure smooth kitchen operations
* Oversee food prep, stock rotation, and waste management
* Order ingredients and supplies as needed
* Maintain high standards of hygiene, food safety, and cleanliness
* Support and mentor all kitchen staff. Handle all kitchen staff issues such as attendance and sick leave
* Oversee maintenance of kitchen equipment and organise repairs when needed
* Make sound business/financial decisions regarding stock and equipment
* Contribute to our inclusive training programme for community members
* Support ad hoc community training events
* Open up the café and/or lock up when required.
EXPERTISE REQUIRED FOR THE ROLE
* Proven experience as a Head Chef or a strong Sous Chef ready to step up
* Creativity and superior culinary skills
* Level 3 or above in Catering or equivalent qualification
* The ability to constantly perform well in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment
* Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety regulations
* Solid financial acumen, including the ability to manage a budget
* A passion for plant-based cooking and sustainable food practices
* Strong communication and leadership skills to lead and motivate a team
* Creative flair and attention to detail
* A team player with a calm, can-do attitude
