Role Title: Senior Design Engineer – Plant Equipment

Location: Flexible hybrid, Derby, Manchester, Warrington

We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Senior Design Engineer – Plant Equipment.

TheSenior Design Engineer – Plant Equipmentwill play a key role within the Miscellaneous Plant Equipment team, contributing to the delivery of a diverse range of products for integration into the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme. This role involves full product ownership—from understanding and developing stakeholder requirements to applying modularisation and standardisation principles, supporting sourcing activities, overseeing product development, conducting governance reviews, and managing contract delivery. The successful candidate will ensure that all products meet technical, quality, and delivery expectations while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams and external partners.

Key selection criteria:

Product Development

* Demonstrable experience/knowledge of design, manufacture, operation, and maintenance of components.
* Knowledgeable in requirements capture, development, validation and verification.
* The candidate will need to be demonstrate working with external suppliers to achieve product development.
* The Senior Design Engineer would be capable of technically checking the work of colleagues and external suppliers and giving feedback
* The Candidate should be a source of experience for junior members within the team for product development.
* The candidate would ideally have a wide knowledge and prior experience of relevant industry codes and standards, such as ASME III, ASME VIII, EN13445, PED/PSSR etc

Ability to communicate and build relationships

* The role requires the candidate to effectively communicate and build strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders across the business. This includes collaboration with teams involved in component design, system design, analysis, verification, manufacturing, supply chain, commercial operations, programme management, and business development.
* The candidate will be expected to support and lead engagements with external stakeholders, including customers and regulatory bodies. This will involve participating in a wide range of technical and strategic discussions with third parties, as well as delivering clear and confident presentations on complex, cross-functional topics relevant to the scope of the role.

Programme development & delivery

* The candidate will be responsible for developing and managing engineering programmes, including oversight of supply chain activities to ensure timely product delivery. They will work closely with the Manager – Plant Equipment to navigate ambiguity, provide direction, and manage risks through effective mitigation strategies. The role also involves supporting supply chain strategy development and vendor selection.

* The candidate will engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, foster a supportive environment, and lead technical discussions across all business levels.
Pay and benefits

We anticipate paying a salary of between £48,000 - £62,500 DOE plus:-

* Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%
* Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
* Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
* Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
* Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
* Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
* £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
