They are looking for an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to come in at the concept stage of the proposed Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station.
You will be leading the development and implementation of EHS strategies during the concept phase of a new nuclear power plant project. This pivotal role involves establishing foundational EHS frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship from the project's inception.
You would need to be on site in Suffolk where the project is based from Monday - Friday each week.
Key Responsibilities:
* EHS Strategy Development: Design and implement comprehensive EHS policies and procedures tailored to the conceptual stage of the nuclear project, aligning with UK regulatory requirements and international best practices.
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all project activities comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) and nuclear-specific guidelines.
* Risk Assessment: Conduct preliminary hazard analyses and environmental impact assessments to identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with project stakeholders, including designers, engineers, and regulatory bodies, to integrate EHS considerations into project planning and decision-making processes.
* Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver EHS training programs to project team members, promoting awareness and adherence to safety and environmental protocols.
* Monitoring and Reporting: Establish systems for tracking EHS performance metrics, incident reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Emergency Preparedness: Develop initial emergency response plans and procedures appropriate for the conceptual phase, ensuring readiness for potential incidents.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma) is advantageous.
* Minimum of 10 years of EHS experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial role within the nuclear or high-risk infrastructure sectors. Experience in early-stage project development is highly desirable.
* Chartered Membership with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) or equivalent professional recognition.
* In-depth understanding of UK EHS legislation, nuclear industry standards, and environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
* Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
