Overview

Band 6 Rotational Occupational Therapist at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Applications are welcome from experienced Band 5s as well as those seeking a developing role that enables progression to a Band 6 within a 4–6 month period once competencies are achieved. NHS experience is desirable, but applications with similar experience will be considered.


Rotations

* Rotations are 6 months in length.
* Respiratory/Surgery
* Emergency services and admission avoidance
* Medicine and Care of the Elderly
* Orthopaedics/Hand Therapy
* Hyper Acute and Acute Stroke


Main duties

* Manage a specialist inpatient caseload using clinical skills and reasoning.
* Support junior staff with caseload management and prioritisation on other wards.
* Complete patient assessments in a ward setting, formulate problem lists and provide appropriate therapy input and discharge planning to facilitate a safe discharge.
* Contribute to board rounds, prioritising patient care and the patient experience.
* Communicate with fellow therapists and other MDT members (nurses, consultants, specialists) and support junior staff with decision making.
* Treatment and management of patients requiring postoperative protocols and ensuring risks are minimised for discharge.
* Actively participate in supervision and service development, and take responsibility for personal professional development and registration requirements.
* Use initiative, communicate with empathy and be an effective team player.
* Demonstrate leadership skills and deputise for team leads when necessary.
* Participate in the development of occupational therapists, support staff and students through training, competencies and supervision.
* Participate in multidisciplinary team teaching.
* Participation in specific 7-day working rotas, dependent on the team/area.


Qualifications and experience

Essential

* Evidence of relevant ongoing professional development.
* Postgraduate experience in relevant clinical areas (NHS or similar).
* Teaching of patients, carers, peers and other MDT staff.
* Experience contributing to effective teamwork and team decision making.

Desirable

* Experience of supervising staff and/or students.

Knowledge and skills

Essential

* Understanding of a broad range of assessments to inform clinical decision making.
* Ability to reflect on own performance.
* Understanding of various treatment approaches to aid clinical reasoning and goal setting.

Desirable

* Ability to deal with difficulties involving patients and/or colleagues.

Other

* Car driver (Desirable).


Other information

Disclosures and DBS check may be required as part of the recruitment process. UK registration with the appropriate professional body is required. This post is permanent and full-time with flexible working options considered in line with service requirements.
