We are recruiting a fluvial flood risk modelling advisor to join our national flood risk evidence modelling service. The team supports the Environment Agency’s Flood and Coastal Risk Management programmes, delivering a resilient nation to climate change. Our modelling services provide the evidence base for flood management and inform strategic decision‑making, supporting the ambitions of EA2030.
Responsibilities
* Advise flood management teams on hydraulic and hydrological modelling, providing expert technical input and support.
* Provide advisory on investment, asset maintenance and flood mapping projects, ensuring appropriate evidence supports decision‑making.
* Communicate flood risk analyses and uncertainty to internal and external stakeholders.
* Recommend tools and techniques for hydraulic and hydrological modelling approaches.
* Support incident response and operational needs.
* Promote a culture of health, safety and wellbeing.
* Drive innovation, efficiency and sustainability in modelling practice.
* Foster continuous learning, mentorship and professional development within the team.
Qualifications & Skills
* Expert knowledge in flood modelling and hydrology.
* Experience with flood modelling software such as Flood Estimation, Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, InfoWorks ICM, and similar tools.
* Proficiency in data processing, management and GIS software packages.
* Mentoring and coaching experience, with commitment to continuous development.
* Strong communication skills, able to explain complex issues and build stakeholder relationships.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team to make decisions and solve problems.
* Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, with positive health and safety behaviours.
* Influencing and persuading skills.
Desirable Qualifications
* Understanding of how flood risk evidence supports risk management investment programmes and flood mapping projects.
