Location : Malvern, UK
Remote Working : remotely working up to 3 days per week and being on-site to liaise with the TSU team on our commencing/forthcoming projects
Duration : Full Time
Hours : 37.5 (This role operates in a flexi-time scheme. Overtime is unpaid)
Flexitime : (core hours 10.00am - 12.00pm and 2.00pm - 3.00pm) to help you to achieve a good work-life balance

The Technology Scouting Unit (TSU) focuses on innovation on existing products and materials characterisation beyond our current product line, in addition to internal/external projects collaborating across industry and academia. TSU focuses on developing cutting edge technology Landscaping, delivering proof of concepts, new IP and developing new talent across the business
The Role
As a Senior Development Scientist in TSU, you will be responsible for initiate and execute research and translate results into specifications and prototypes; as well as support other functions by advice and knowledge transfer; in line with the MP strategy and based on external developments and most recent techniques, to contribute to maximizing the knowledge position and realise innovation for competitive MP products.
Your main activities include:
1. Technology Roadmap - Carry out technology scans, couple market needs to technology.
2. Ideas & Research - Perform research on external developments and new methods and techniques and lay down new ideas into patents and publications.
3. Preliminary Project Planning - Provide ideas and input for business plan and an estimation of business benefits.
4. Projects Planning and Implementation– Lead or participate in planning and implementation of TSU projects with your scientific expertise
5. Knowledge Transfer - Exchange and distribute research and specific product knowledge, through training, coaching, on the job support and publications.
6. Networking - Build and maintain a relations network, including funding and contract, initiate contacts with (potential) partners and participate in project groups with relevant parties within the research area and/or scientific community and/or users
Qualifications
7. Graduate Physicist, Optical, Mechanical, Mathematician or equivalent.
8. PhD would be advantageous.
Preferred project / development experience include:
9. Experience of developing scientific instrumentation
10. Landscaping and development of early TRL technology demonstrators with multi-disciplinary project teams
11. Experience with mathematical modelling of complex systems to solve physical problems.
12. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
13. Knowledge of optical system design and use of Zemax would be advantageous.
14. Experienced mentoring junior members, preserving good design techniques, experimentation, analysis, and documentation.
