Job overview The Phlebotomy team are looking to recruit Band 3 permanent Phlebotomists. The successful applicants will be expected to support and complement the existing team, taking bloods from a variety of patients throughout the hospital. This includes supporting both Inpatients and Outpatients within the hospital, this service is offered 7 days a week including Public Holidays. (Please see job description). The expectation is that you are able to work flexibly, part time hours will be considered although they must suit the needs of the service. There is a need for a physical ability to exert in light frequent physical effort throughout each shift pushing equipment and patients within the hospital. The applicant would need to be caring, friendly, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, showing empathy and compassion, to work and communicate with the patients and the team. Previous phlebotomy experience would be beneficial but we are able to provide training in this area. Previous experience in a healthcare setting or equivalent is required. The Phlebotomy team are a dynamic team keen on developing and supporting each other. Please do be aware that the role involves handling blood so not for the squeamish. Advert You will work alongside the phlebotomy team leader and will be guided by them, and clinical guidelines and policies. ▪ You will communicate effectively with all levels of the multi-disciplinary team both within the Trust and from outside organisations. ▪ You will exchange routine factual information with patients and staff, relating to patient tests, requests and service provided. ▪ You will explain routine procedures with particular emphasis on negotiating, persuasion and reassurance skills. There may be barriers to communication such as physical and mental disabilities, e.g.: deafness, visual impairment, elderly patients and special needs. ▪ You will recognise people’s needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly. ▪ You will complete documentation clearly and legibly ▪ You will use appropriate IT systems such as ICE, Sample 360, eroster, vital Pac, email, Vital flow to retrieve relevant information. ▪ You will record incidents non-conformance events in a clear and logical manner. ▪ You will work effectively with other team members and clinical staff to meet patients’ needs. ▪ You will Inform ward departmental staff when procedures have been completed or when they are unable to complete. ▪ You will ensure all specimens are accurately labelled and the computerised systems have identified that bloods have been taken. ▪ You will plan and manage own workload within the conflicting demands of the service Working for our organisation At the RUH we’re proud to put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community.
