Head of Bid Estimating

Location: Glasgow– Hybrid working (Minimum 3 days per week from office vs home)

Our Opportunity

Thales Optronics and Missile Electronics (OME) have a great opportunity for the Head of Bid Estimating to join the team in Glasgow.

Reporting to the Head of Contracts for OME UK, the Head of Bid Estimating is responsible for delivery of an effective and efficient estimating, costing and financial modelling service through engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

Specifically, Responsibilities Include


* Coordination, creation, review and presentation of Estimating, Costing and Pricing information for bids and proposals.
* Preparation and presentation of estimating and financial data for internal review as part of the Bids and Proposals approval process.
* Modelling of estimated costs, overheads, funding, cashflow, margin, profitability etc.
* Support of the continued development, improvement and implementation of estimating, costing and financial modelling methodologies, processes, and tools.
* Contributing to / leading Single Source Pricing Regulations negotiations with UK MOD.

About You

* Experience of working within a fast-paced bidding environment.
* Experience of costing and pricing bids in excess of £100M
* Proficiency in numerical analysis and complex problem solving.
* Ability to articulate ideas and information in a clear and persuasive manner under pressure of time.
* Self-motivated and excellent organisation skills, delivering to agreed timescales with attention to detail.
* Open, positive attitude to new ideas, practices & methods.
* Experience within the Aerospace and Defence industry.
* Experience of developing, planning and implementing cost and price modelling strategies during the early bid stage.
* Proven background in generating cost estimates and conducting cost analysis, and advising senior management in support of bid decisions.
* Experience of risk and opportunity analysis and modelling.
* Conversant in use of recognised estimating, pricing and project control methodologies and tools, e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, ProPricer, PRICE TruePlanning, Primavera, etc.
* Experience of UK MOD procurement and cost assurance processes.
* Experience of Single Source Pricing Regulations negotiations with UK MOD.
* Experience of costing, pricing and associated negotiations with international customers.

Security Clearance Statement

Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires you to be a British National and achieve Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment. To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
