Role Description
This is a full-time on-site IT Technician role based in Greater Manchester. The IT Technician will provide technical support, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and ensure efficient operation of IT systems. Responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving technical problems, assisting users, conducting system maintenance, and offering training to end-users on technology systems where required. The role is integral to maintaining reliable IT infrastructure and delivering excellent customer service within a dynamic industrial environment.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a proactive Microsoft 365 Systems Administrator to join our team. This role is responsible for the day‑to‑day management, operational efficiency, and optimization of our cloud ecosystem. Working closely with the Global Administrator, the successful candidate will apply their hands‑on experience across our core stack to ensure the platform remains robust, efficient, and healthy. This role offers the opportunity to lead on internal IT education and drive a culture of digital excellence within the business.
Software Stack Experience
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience working within the following toolsets:
* Microsoft 365 Core: Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Intune (Endpoint Management).
* Security & Monitoring: Microsoft Defender XDR and Entra ID Protection.
* Compliance: Microsoft Purview (Audit & Retention).
* Automation: PowerShell (Microsoft Graph SDK).
* Asset Management: Bitwarden (Credential Governance).
* User Awareness: KnowBe4 (Training & Phishing Simulations).
Core Responsibilities
Microsoft 365 Administration
* Manage and optimize the M365 tenant, overseeing service health, domain management, and license audits.
* Administer Exchange Online (mailflow, shared mailboxes), Teams, and SharePoint Online.
* Utilize Microsoft Intune to manage device enrollment, configuration profiles, and compliance policies for laptops and mobile devices.
* Implement governance policies to manage site lifecycles and prevent SharePoint/Teams sprawl.
* Support the deployment and configuration of Microsoft 365 Apps across the organization.
Threat Detection & Monitoring
* Proactively monitor the Microsoft Defender and Entra ID portals for high‑priority alerts and anomalies.
* Identify and escalate suspicious activity, such as "Impossible Travel" logins or unusual file‑sharing patterns.
* Review Threat Explorer and real‑time detections to identify emerging phishing or malware trends targeting the business.
* Audit sign‑in logs and system changes to ensure identity integrity and flag potential compromises.
IT Training & Adoption
* Design and deliver internal training sessions to improve staff digital literacy and M365 tool adoption.
* Act as a technical advocate for new Microsoft features, translating technical updates into business benefits.
* Create and maintain technical documentation and "How‑To" guides to encourage user self‑service.
Automation & Support
* Utilize PowerShell to automate repetitive tasks and generate custom reports.
* Provide technical support, acting as the primary escalation point for internal issues.
* Maintain technical documentation (KBAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the IT environment.
Lifecycle Management
* Execute the technical components of staff onboarding and offboarding within the M365 environment.
* Perform regular audits of license usage to ensure cost‑efficiency and compliance.
* Review the Microsoft 365 Roadmap and Message Center to prepare the business for upcoming feature changes.
Required Experience & Skills
* Proven experience in a dedicated Microsoft 365 administration or technical support role.
* Strong technical proficiency in SharePoint, Teams, Intune, and the wider M365 suite.
* Solid experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
* High attention to detail with an ability to spot anomalies in system logs and activity reports.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to train and support non‑technical users.
* Relevant certifications such as MS-102 (Microsoft 365 Administrator Expert) are highly desirable.
