We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Liverpool to assist with the appointment of a Food Safety Consultant, on a 1- month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £39.00 - £49.03 per hour
Summary:
Liverpool City Council is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Food Safety Consultant to join its Public Protection team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in safeguarding public health through proactive inspections, thorough investigations of foodborne illnesses and accidents, and effective enforcement actions. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work autonomously while contributing to a vital public service.
Responsibilities:
* Conduct routine and reactive inspections of diverse commercial establishments to ensure adherence to food hygiene, health and safety, and public health legislation.
* Lead complex investigations into food poisoning incidents, infectious disease outbreaks, and serious or fatal accidents, including sensitive interactions with affected individuals and their families.
* Enforce relevant bylaws, including those pertaining to skin piercing, and undertake other public health duties such as exhumations.
* Initiate and manage a range of enforcement actions, including issuing inspection reports, warning letters, statutory notices (e.g., Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notices, Prohibition Notices, Improvement Notices), and preparing prosecution case files in accordance with legal frameworks.
* Provide specialist technical advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies (e.g., UKHSA, HSE, FSA).
Qualifications:
* Hold an accredited Environmental Health degree (BSc, MSc, or equivalent).
* Be registered as an Environmental Health Practitioner with the Environmental Health Registration
* Significant demonstrable experience in a local authority enforcement role, specifically carrying out statutory duties related to food hygiene and health and safety.
* A detailed and current understanding of food safety, health and safety, and public health legislation.
