This is a substantive full time post, to be based at the Burnley General Hospital site. The General Neurodevelopmental and specialist clinics are undertaken in dedicated outpatient clinics. Clinical activities will be delivered from sites across the East Lancashire Hospital Trust footprint which cover Royal Blackburn, Burnley General, Clitheroe Community Hospital, Rossendale, Blackburn with Darwen Children's Centres (Shadsworth and Livesey) and The Acorn Centre in Accrington, and Special School Settings.
Main duties of the job The post holder will undertake outpatient clinics to undertake medical assessment and medical management of a range of problems including:
Developmental problems diagnostic assessment for pre-school children
Neurodisability (Including Cerebral Palsy, Tone Management and Epilepsy)
Learning Disability (Aetiological investigation of moderate - severe Learning Disability)
Autistic Spectrum Disorders
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD)
Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
Medical management of complex neurological or genetic conditions (in association with other specialist services)
Job responsibilities Community Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics
The Directorate provides a comprehensive Community Child Health Paediatric service for children under 16 and also to some Young People 16-18 in specific situations.
The service is delivered via an Integrated Clinical Team, Multidisciplinary Model with Medical Consultants, Allied Health Professionals (Clinical Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy) and Specialist Practitioners.
Educational Qualifications
Primary medical qualification e.g. MBChB
A higher qualification e.g. M.D. or MSc.
Professional /Occupational Qualifications
Full registration with General Medical Council
Inclusion on the Specialist Register for Community Child Health or Paediatric Neurodisability or due admission to Register within 6 months
If Specialist Registration (CCT) is in General Paediatrics then must be able to demonstrate they fulfil competencies for L3 Community Child Health / Paediatric Neurodisability
MRCPCH or MRCP (Paediatrics) or equivalent
Training
Experience and training in Child Protection to level appropriate for Consultant practice
Attendance at appropriate professional meetings and courses
Experience in other areas relevant to child health, eg: general practice, child mental health, obstetrics or public health
Specialist experience in one or more areas of practice to take a lead role in that area
Experience
Management of wide range of community paediatrics / paediatric neurodisability including child protection
At least 6 months nhs experience
Evidence of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and commitment to these within the Trust
Understanding of and experience performing audit / QI during general professional and higher specialist training
Awareness of basic research methods
Familiarity with evidence based practice
Experience in Medical Leadership role
Attendance at courses in teaching, appraisal and mentorship
Previous research projects/publications
CPD
Clear commitment to lifelong learning
Experience of evidence based medicine
Ability to keep up to date in the speciality
Membership of appropriate post graduate societies.
Management
Understanding of current NHS management systems including clinical governance and risk management.
Attendance at management meetings e.g. Directorate Speciality Board Meetings
Attendance at appropriate management courses.
Previous participation in a management role
Experience in appraisal & mentoring
Communication and relationships
Ability to communicate & liaise effectively with patients, their parents & other relatives & with colleagues/staff in all disciplines.
Attendance at e.g. Death/Bereavement or Breaking News workshops and Counselling courses

Experience of supervision of junior staff

Ability to lead the development of services and provoke best practice amongst the colleagues
Evidence of development of leadership within the work environment
Teamwork
Ability to work in a team with professional colleagues both medical and from other disciplines
