Offer description

Do you share our health board values: Caring for each other, working together, always improving? If so, we would love for you to come and work for Swansea Bay University HB.

The Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery at Morriston Hospital is looking for applications from a LAS ST Higher (ST3+) doctor to cover a vacant post from 06/08/2025 to 22/12/2025 in the first instance.

The post is not recognized for training, but the experience will be comparable to that of an ST Higher. Participation in educational programs, audits, and research will be encouraged and supported.

The Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery in Morriston is regarded as one of the premier training centers for plastic surgery in the UK, with close links to the academic plastic surgery research unit Recon Regen and Swansea University Medical School.

This position is ideal for an ambitious trainee seeking to gain further experience in plastic surgery in preparation for a future career in plastic surgery or a related specialty.

This is a full-time LAS ST Higher post participating in the full shift rota. The plastic surgery service provides outreach services to nearly all acute hospitals in South Wales, serving a population of 2.3 million. We are the only providers of plastic surgery services in Wales; North Wales' services are provided by units in North West England.

Main duties of the job

The facilities at the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery are among the best in the UK, featuring three large operating theatres, a dedicated trauma theatre, specialized observation ward (PSMU), adult elective plastic surgery ward, and an admissions unit with beds for adults and children, including a paediatric HDU. The center also offers outpatient and dressing services, as well as occupational, physiotherapy, and speech & language therapy departments. The burns center is exceptional, with dedicated theatres, a 10-bed burns ICU/HDU, a low dependency ward, and outreach services. Adjacent to the elective ward is the Plastics Surgery Treatment Centre, providing planned day-case treatments in two operating rooms. The Clinical Plastic Surgery Unit collaborates with Swansea University to form the Recon Regen research unit, located across Swansea University’s Institute of Life Science and the European Centre for Nano Health, as well as a research suite at the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery.
