Overview
Are you passionate about reducing re-offending and protecting the public? The Guernsey Probation Service is looking for a skilled Probation Officer to join the team on the beautiful Bailiwick of Guernsey.
This is an opportunity to make a real difference — providing courts with high-quality assessments, supervising offenders in the community, and helping individuals change their lives for the better.
What You’ll Do
* Provide courts with detailed assessments and sentencing recommendations.
* Supervise and manage offenders in custody and in the community, delivering interventions to reduce re-offending.
* Carry out ODARA risk assessments and lead on the management of potentially dangerous, violent, and sexual offenders through MAPPA.
* Use DAISY2 (case management system) to maintain accurate and defensible records.
* Prepare prisoners for release, including rehabilitation and resettlement planning.
* Deliver cognitive behavioural and other evidence-based interventions, including for intimate partner violence, sexual offending, and substance misuse.
* Represent the service in court, providing professional advice as requested.
* Work collaboratively with police, prison staff, courts, child services, advocates, and voluntary agencies.
About the Role
Our approach is closely aligned with Scottish probation practice, emphasising rehabilitation, robust risk management, and strong multi-agency collaboration.
You will be based in Guernsey’s prison, where all probation activity is co-located, offering a unique opportunity to work closely with custodial colleagues and deliver a joined-up service from custody through to community reintegration.
What We’re Looking For
* A recognised probation qualification (DipSW, Probation Qualification, or CQSW) — or willingness to undertake modular study if required.
* Experience within the criminal justice system and a strong understanding of relevant legislation.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with clients and professional partners.
* Strong risk assessment and report-writing skills (experience with ODARA or similar tools is highly desirable).
* Motivation, resilience, and the ability to manage a varied workload independently.
Why Join Us
* Competitive salary range of £53,271 – £61,707 (with potential progression).
* The chance to work in a supportive, small-team environment where your impact is clear and measurable.
* A role that combines custody, community supervision, and court work — offering true variety and professional growth.
* Opportunities for ongoing professional development and specialism in areas such as sexual and violent offending, intimate partner violence, and young offenders.
