Join to apply for the Teacher of Electric Guitar role at Royal Grammar School Guildford.
This opportunity is offered on a self-employed basis and is currently a temporary position, until December 2025 as a minimum, with the possibility that this could become long term.
Responsibilities
* Teach individual electric guitar and bass guitar (as required).
* Have a wide knowledge of repertoire and the ability to teach pupils from beginner up to advanced level, both technically and musically.
* Possess some awareness of relevant exam boards (e.g. Rock School and Trinity).
* Take part in the department’s co-curricular programme and oversee the coaching of several bands across the school, preparing them for events both in school and in the local area.
* Teach approximately 15 pupils (equating to 7.5 hours of teaching). Lessons are 30 minutes long, with the expectation to teach 30 lessons for each pupil over the academic year.
* Potentially undertake additional responsibilities such as oversight and coordination of the biannual 'RGS Rock' event at The Boileroom.
Qualifications and profile
* Outstanding musician with the ability to teach and inspire young musicians at every stage of development.
* Ability to coach bands and contribute to the RGS Period 8 Programme (Monday afternoons, 15:20 – 16:30) and/or similar activities.
* Willingness to participate in the department’s co-curricular programme and lead band coaching for school events.
