Job Summary
We are recruiting for a Senior Rotational Pharmacy Technician who shares our vision to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
Applicants may be newly qualified accuracy‑checking technicians or those with a retail pharmacy background. On‑the‑job training will be provided for all aspects of the role. Technicians without an Accuracy Checking qualification or NVQ3 will also be considered, with a Band 4 to Band 5 developmental plan offered.
The role is based in the pharmacy department at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre Pharmacy and involves general dispensing, drug distribution, chemotherapy desk duties, patient counselling and associated pharmaceutical responsibilities.
High‑Cost Area Supplement: 15% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,552 and a maximum payment of £5,735 per annum pro‑rata.
Responsibilities
* Dispense and check in‑patient prescriptions and systemic anti‑cancer treatment.
* Provide routine technical pharmacy support in a professional, patient‑oriented manner.
* Participate in purchasing of drugs and drug distribution activities.
* Run the chemotherapy desk and dispatch chemotherapy orders to wards and day units in a timely manner.
* Partake in stock control activities: expiry‑date checking, stock counting, replenishing emergency cupboards and boxes, and fulfilling to‑follows.
Qualifications
Essential
* Qualified Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC.
* Diploma‑level 3 or equivalent in a relevant medicines‑related subject, or significant equivalent proven experience (degree level).
* GPhC Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) or equivalent.
* GPhC Accredited Medicines Management qualification.
Desirable
* Post‑qualification pharmacy practice experience.
* Experience using the JAC dispensing system.
* Previous experience working with oncology patients.
* Previous experience in hospital pharmacy.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Computer and IT literate.
* Confidentiality and data protection awareness.
* Preparation of written reports and procedures.
* Good team player, able to work autonomously or supervise others when necessary.
* Good command of written and spoken English.
* Ability to prioritise workload and maintain strong organisational skills.
* Accurate and precise attention to detail.
* Proficient IT skills; experience with SOPs, reports and audits is desirable.
* Leadership and staff management skills desirable.
