Senior Associate Director - Civil Engineering (Transmission & Distribution)

The UK and Continental Europe teams are growing, and we need a senior leader to drive civil and structural design for high‑voltage substations, HVDC converter stations, overhead line interfaces, and underground cable projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead civil/structural design packages from concept through detailed design and construction support for National Grid and DNO clients.
* Define civil layouts for substations, integrating geotechnical and structural inputs with electrical plant layouts.
* Drive technical reviews and approvals covering foundation design, structural framing, equipment plinths, transformer bunds, flood risk/SuDS, access/haulage, drainage, and outfalls.
* Chair design reviews; ensure compliance with client procedures and CDM 2015.
* Plan resources, programs, and budgets; coordinate with back‑office engineers, sub‑consultants and suppliers using common data environments and BIM workflows (Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation).
* Provide construction‑phase support (RFI responses, site inspections, NCR closeout), attend site visits and pre‑construction reviews.
* Lead and contribute to tenders, proposals and client presentations; maintain and grow strategic client relationships.
* Line‑manage and mentor Senior/Principal Engineers, build succession and capability.
Qualifications
* Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
* Chartered Engineer status.
* Experience delivering complex multi‑disciplinary infrastructure projects for the Energy Transition sector.
* Proven leadership of UK T&D projects with strong client‑facing capability.
* Fluency in BIM/CDE processes and design tools (Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, Tekla/Tedds).
* Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder engagement, and business development skills.
* Preferred authorisations: LCDAE/PD (TP137) and TP141.
