Nursing Assistant - Lung Biopsy Team

We are looking for compassionate and caring Nursing Assistants to join the lung biopsy team at Wythenshawe Hospital, a diagnostic service within the award‑winning lung cancer team. Patients attend our unit for lung biopsies under CT or ultrasound guidance in a brand‑new specialist unit.
As a Nursing Assistant you will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and in accordance with Trust guidelines and protocols. Your primary responsibilities will include recording patient observations, administering delegated clinical care duties such as venepuncture and cannulation, and supporting the nursing team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑focused care. You will communicate sensitively with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team and work flexibly across a range of shifts (07:30‑18:30 weekdays with very occasional weekend shifts).
On‑Job Training Opportunities
New to healthcare? You will be supported through the Support Worker Development Programme for Nursing Assistants, which includes the Care Certificate for those who have not completed it. Successful completion opens the pathway to a Band 3 Nursing Assistant role. Experienced assistants will undertake a skills analysis and, if required, access clinical skills modules to progress to Band 3.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* National Care Certificate or equivalent, or willingness to complete within 12 weeks of starting.
* Level 2 Apprenticeship in health care or equivalent knowledge and skill from the Clinical Support Worker Development Programme.
* Demonstrated evidence of clinical knowledge and competency to progress to Band 3 AfC.
* Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or equivalent education/experience.
Knowledge
* Experience working in a healthcare or social care environment that involves people contact.
* Knowledge of healthcare workplace standards.
Skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively within a team.
* Competence in carrying out well‑defined routine tasks.
* Capability to work independently following direction from a Registered Healthcare Practitioner.
* Ability to relate well with patients, relatives, visitors, colleagues and the wider Trust staff.
