Following a departmental restructure, we will recruit a Consultant permanently to join our senior team of 2 Public Health Consultants and 2 Heads of Service. For the first instance we seek a 6‑month contract. Desired portfolio includes:
* Health intelligence
* Immunisation
* Alcohol and drugs policy/delivery
* Obesity
* Children and young people
* Social prescribing
* Health checks
* BBV
* TB
* Health Protection
The department has 50+ staff covering the needs of the Scottish Borders population. We work closely with the local authority, Integrated Joint Board and the East Regional Health Protection service. The postholder will manage 4 individuals, including 2 dedicated to health intelligence, and will contribute to developing a Public Health strategy, leading preventive initiatives and collaborating across partnerships.
Contract: 0.6 WTE, 6‑month fixed term, 3 days a week remote. The role is based within NHS Scotland, providing NHS pay & conditions while working within an NHS perspective and partnership context.
Location: Scottish Borders (population 116,000, includes commuter belt to Edinburgh). Small towns such as Hawick, Galashiels, Peebles, Selkirk and Melrose provide opportunities for population studies.
Current projects: collaboration with Oxford University on an endoscopy screening study funded by UK Cancer Research.
