The Director of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conferences (CSC UK) will provide overall leadership to the charity and be responsible for the successful design and delivery of the flagship CSC UK 2027 conference, which will bring together emerging leaders from across the Commonwealth to examine major economic and social challenges.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Director will translate strategy into action by overseeing programme development, partnerships, fundraising, governance, and day‑to‑day operations. The role requires a senior, delivery‑focused leader capable of managing complex stakeholder relationships, securing financial support, and coordinating a high‑profile international programme while strengthening the organisation’s foundations for long‑term impact beyond 2027.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
* Work closely with the Board of Trustees to refine and deliver CSC UK’s strategic priorities, with a clear focus on CSC UK 2027.
* Provide visible and effective leadership to CSC UK, ensuring clarity of purpose, strong internal coordination, and a culture of delivery.
* Maintain regular reporting to the Board on progress, risks, finances, and delivery milestones.
* Lead the end‑to‑end planning and delivery of CSC UK 2027, including overseeing programme design, logistics, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination with partners.
* Ensure elective risk management, budgeting, and operational planning to deliver the Conference seamlessly and on time.
* Work with the Board Chair and their team to deliver the 70th Anniversary Dinner in June 2027, in collaboration with Trustees and partners.
* Support the Chair of the Board and his team with their fundraising strategy for CSC UK 2027.
* Build and steward relationships with key patrons, sponsors, and institutional partners.
* Contribute to the development of a proportionate medium‑term fundraising approach beyond 2027.
Organisation, Governance & Operations
* Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the charity, ensuring activity remains focused, proportionate, and aligned with strategic priorities.
* Lead and manage a small staff team and volunteers during the conference, ensuring roles, responsibilities, and priorities are clear.
Person Specification
Essential experience and skills
* Senior leadership experience within a charity, public, or mission‑led organisation.
* Proven track record of delivering complex programmes, events, or initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
* Experience working closely with Boards and senior external partners.
* Strong organisational and operational leadership skills.
* Experience in fundraising or income generation at a strategic level.
* Experience delivering high‑profile conferences or convenings.
* Familiarity with Commonwealth institutions or international networks.
* Experience leading organisations through periods of growth or transition.
