Teaching Assistant Location: Sunderland Working hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm (Monday to Friday) Temporary, long term Leader Education are looking for an enthusiastic and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join our team and play a key role in supporting young people aged 11–19 with complex special educational needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to build meaningful connections with students, helping them re-engage with learning, develop confidence, and achieve greater independence within a supportive and inclusive environment. Set within expansive, well-equipped grounds, our school offers specialist facilities including a therapy pool and a calming sensory garden, designed to enhance each student’s learning experience. You will work collaboratively with teaching staff and a wider multidisciplinary team, providing tailored support both in and out of the classroom, ensuring every student feels valued, understood, and motivated to succeed. In this role, you will focus on fostering students’ social, emotional, and academic development through both one-to-one mentoring and small group interventions. You will support students with a range of complex needs, including communication, sensory, physical, and behavioural challenges, using a personalised and adaptive approach. Where required, you will also provide personal care, always maintaining the highest standards of dignity, respect, and professionalism.
