About Us: Pettigrew Bakeries are a well-regarded, community-focused bakery with 4 sites across Cardiff. We are committed to providing high-quality artisan breads, pastries, and coffee within a welcoming environment.
Reports To: Site Supervisor
Job Purpose: Working in our kitchen this is a part time flexible role, typically working one weekend on and one off, 3 days a week 6am to 10am helping in the preparation of sandwiches for our shops. The role suits a kitchen trained chef, or food handler interested in great ingredients who needs flexible hours. Additional hours available serving in our Roath Garage shop.
To deliver excellent customer service, ensure smooth day-to-day operations, efficiently prepare and serve food and beverages, and contribute to the maintenance of a clean and effective shop operation, supporting the overall success of the bakery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Customer Engagement:
* Greet and serve customers with courtesy and efficiency. Use of the Welsh Language is important to us.
* Accurately take and process customer orders at the counter.
* Provide knowledgeable information regarding our products, for which training will be provided.
* Create and maintain a positive working environment, high energy and enthusiasm positively encouraged.
* Food and Beverage Preparation:
* Prepare and serve coffee to the highest standard, we are seeking an individual with exceptional coffee skills and passion, ideally SCA Intermediate qualification or equivalent.
* Prepare and serve bakery items, pastries, and light meals according to our exacting standards.
* Ensure all food preparation and presentation adheres to our quality guidelines.
* Maintain strict adherence to food hygiene and safety regulations, including HACCP principles.
* Operational Support:
* Operate the point-of-sale system accurately and efficiently for processing transactions.
* Maintain a clean and well-organised shop environment, including customer areas, counters, and equipment.
* Manage stock levels and restocking as required.
* Support opening and closing procedures in accordance with guidelines.
* Undertake cleaning duties, including dishwashing and equipment maintenance.
* Assist with the effective display of bakery products.
* Team Contribution:
* Work collaboratively and effectively within the team and comfortable working solo.
* Maintain clear and professional communication with colleagues and Managers.
* Provide assistance to other team members as needed.
Person Specification:
* Essential:
* Proven excellent customer service skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Experience or willingness to work Solo shifts.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member.
* A positive and proactive work ethic.
* Competent numeracy and literacy skills.
* A commitment to learning and development.
* A genuine interest in high-quality food and beverage
* Specialty coffee experience.
* A solid understanding of HACCP principles and practical experience in maintaining high food hygiene standards.
* Strong Preference:
* Barista SCA Intermediate Certification.
* Proficiency in the Welsh language.
* Desirable:
* Previous experience in an artisan Bakery or food service role.
* Formal Food Hygiene certification.
* Knowledge of artisan bread and pastry production.
Working Conditions:
* Flexible working hours, including availability for weekends, typically early start early finish.
* Requirement to stand for extended periods.
* Physical capability to lift and carry items as needed up and down a spiral staircase.
* You may be required to work at other bakery sites, or markets, on occasion within the Cardiff area.
* Will require some solo working as well as working within a team.
