Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you'll have full responsibility for the Engineering function, ensuring outstanding standards of safety, compliance, reliability, and cost control. You'll lead, develop, and motivate a skilled Engineering team while shaping strategies that support the operational and commercial needs of the business. This is a hands‑on leadership role where your decisions directly impact performance, compliance, and customer experience.
Responsibilities
* Own and control engineering budgets, delivering cost-effective performance
* Lead and develop the Engineering team, driving engagement, training, and compliance
* Ensure full compliance with DVSA, Health & Safety, and operational legislation
* Deliver and monitor KPIs across: Vehicle inspection & servicing, MOT compliance, Fleet reliability & cleanliness standards
* Oversee the effective use of diagnostic tools, workshop equipment, and engineering systems
* Provide accurate cost analysis and insights to support operational planning
Qualifications
* Proven experience as an Engineering Manager in a PCV environment
* Experience managing a large fleet or multi-site engineering operation
* Recognised engineering qualification (e.g. Level 3 HGV City & Guilds/NVQ or equivalent)
* NEBOSH qualifiedStrong knowledge of DVSA standards, H&S legislation, and engineering processes
* Confident IT skills and attention to accurate reporting
* Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends or anti‑social hours when required
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
* CPC qualification (or working towards), ideally Transport Manager
* Experience as a named individual on an Operator's Licence
