A rare opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to lead aseptic services for NHS Borders. The post holder will oversee the aseptic dispensing unit at Borders General Hospital. The Pharmacy Aseptic Service supports the Borders Cancer Unit, the infusion service and the wider hospital teams. We are seeking an experienced technician with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to organise and supervise the day-to-day running of the Aseptic Unit.
Our aseptic service provides bespoke chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies and parenteral nutrition to patients across the Borders General Hospital site. We are installing a new modular aseptic suite later this year, presenting an excellent opportunity to contribute to its implementation and join us as we begin this new chapter. You will be encouraged to be innovative and forward-thinking and will work closely with the Pharmacy Cancer Team to maintain and improve our high standards.
Responsibilities
* Supervise the work of Pharmacy Technicians and Support Staff.
* Lead the delivery and development of training and educational programmes for Pharmacy Technicians, Support Staff and foundation year trainees, in line with national standards.
* Ensure all procedures, policies and assessments are up to date and compliant with GMP under the direction of the Accountable Pharmacist / Deputy.
* Contribute to career development with leadership and management skills training and continuous professional development opportunities.
* Work with multidisciplinary teams to support continuous process review and patient safety improvement.
* Lead the day-to-day running of the aseptic unit, support the development of the team and maximise benefits from new opportunities for skill-mix development, including extended roles for Pharmacy Support Workers and future roles for Pharmacy Technicians.
* Demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of a team; experience in aseptic services and leadership/change management is preferred.
Qualifications
* GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Experience in pharmacy aseptic services; leadership and managing change are advantageous.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Willingness to participate in public holiday rotas and rotational weekend work.
