We are looking for an enthusiastic post graduate trainee who want to pursue a career in Paediatrics or simply want to try something different.
This post will link across our Paediatric Specialty inpatient and outpatient areas, covering a 1 in 8 rolling rota. To provide a service that is tailored to meet the needs of the individual and to understand what our patients need and be adaptable and responsive in this. Being able to support the wider medical team while learning. To provide safe, high quality healthcare at the right time, in the right place to support the children of Torbay and South Devon to live their lives to the full. Responsibilities
* All Resident doctors have responsibility for the management of acute paediatric admissions to the wards and day-to-day running of the wards (Louisa Cary and SCBU) with the support of the attending Consultant of the Week (COW).
* Assist the wider hospital team by covering the Short Stay Assessment Unit (SSPAU) with the on-call consultant (PAC).
* Assist with resuscitation and treatment of sick children and neonates as appropriate.
* Support the paediatric specialty inpatient and outpatient services as described, including the 1 in 8 rolling rota.
* Provide a service tailored to meet the needs of the individual and understand patient needs; be adaptable and responsive.
Ward andFacilities
Louisa Cary Ward is a 22-bed paediatric ward, including 3 Paediatric HDU beds and a 6-bedded adolescent area. A Short Stay Paediatric Assessment Unit operates Monday to Friday 9:00–21:00 for assessment of acutely unwell children referred by GPs or from the Emergency Department, led by the paediatric acute consultant (PAC) with junior tier doctor and nurse practitioner support.
There is a Special Care Baby Unit as part of the South West Peninsula Neonatal Network, with neonatal resuscitation, stabilisation and intensive care prior to retrieval by the Peninsula Retrieval Team. Routine neonatal care is provided for premature infants of 30 weeks and above.
Outpatient facilities include 5 clinic rooms with extensive specialist clinics supported by visiting tertiary specialists. The John Parkes Unit Child Development Centre provides multidisciplinary assessment and management of children with developmental impairment. A Children’s community nursing team cares for those with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. Peripheral clinics are undertaken in various community hospital and special school settings.
