We are seeking to appoint full time Lecturers to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English within our cross-College provision, primarily to vocational learners aged 16-18, with a growing provision of part-time adult learners.
This is a challenging and rewarding area of the College. You would play a key role in supporting our vocational learners with their development and to help them progress onto higher courses or the workplace.You would join a team of skilled teachers with a wealth of experience and knowledge, who are pro-active in sharing best practice with the team in order to engage and enthuse resit learners.
You will preferably possess a degree in English or a related subject, with experience of teaching or tutoring English GCSE and/or Functional Skills, and have the ability to engage and enthuse 16- to 18-year-olds from a variety of vocational disciplines
Qualifications
•Degree or equivalent in English or related subject
(or minimum of Level 3 qualification plus proven successful experience of teaching English/Literacy/ESOL/EFL for at least 2 years)
•Minimum Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (e.g. DET, PGCE) or willing to work towards this, supported by the College
Knowledge and Experience
•Experience of teaching or tutoring GCSE, Functional Skills English, EFL, ESOL or literacy
•The ability to take on course leadership responsibility
•Experience of working in Further Education
•An understanding of the exam requirements for GCSE/Functional skills
Other Skills
•The ability to engage and enthuse vocational learners aged 16-18
•Ability to manage challenging behaviour of students effectively and engage reluctant learners
•Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
•Good interpersonal skills
•Good teaching practice including classroom management
•Ability to use IT within the curriculum including the ability to deliver effective teaching online/remotely
•Good administrative/organisational skills and ability to use IT systems effectively
•Ability to work effectively as part of a team
•Understanding of and commitment to Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding
•Commitment to continuing professional development
•Awareness of and sensitivity towards the different learning needs of students
•Willingness and ability to deliver one evening class per week until 9.00pm on Thursdays
•Commitment to learners and learner achievement.
