The Compliance Officer will safeguard the charitybycontributing torobust internal governanceand compliance processes,supportingriskidentification andmanagementprocesses and being mindful ofrelevant legislation andregulation. This role willbeable to interpretregulatory guidanceand make suggestions for changes to internal processes,includingbut not limited to guidance published bytheCharity Commission for England and Walesand the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Through the development and utilisation of new and existing processes, youwill provide assurance tothe charity’sleadershipteamsthat the organisationoperatesinline with statutory obligations, internal policies and proceduresand recognised best practice standards.
This role willco-ordinateand supportthe development, implementation, and regular review of policies and procedures that underpin strong internal controls and transparent decision-making. Responsible for supporting colleagueswithidentification, assessment, and monitoringof incidents andoperationalrisks,helping torecordproportionatecontrols and review periodsto protectall stakeholders.In doing so, you will promote a culture of accountability, ethical conduct, and continuous improvement across the charity.
This role focuses onthe processes that supportoperationalday-to-day governance and compliance, as opposed to overarching governance which falls to the responsibility of the CEO,supported bythe BoardSecretary/ ExecutiveAssistancerole.
Working closely with the Finance and Operations Manager,Quality AssuranceManagerandexternalData Protection Officerto ensureaco-ordinated and streamlined approachto governance,complianceand riskacross the whole organisation.
This role is not responsible for:
* Acting as Board Secretary
* Strategic decision making
* Providinglegal advice
* Acting as the Data Protection Officer
You WillBring:
Astrong understanding ofinternalgovernanceframeworks,ability to implement and coordinaterisk management principlesandprocessesand a strong understanding ofregulatory compliance. You willdemonstrateexceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and the confidence toensure processes are applied across the organisation.With strong analytical and problem-solving skills, you will proactivelyhelpothers toidentifyriskandimplement and recordeffectivemitigations andcontrols. You willbe able to implement processes which supportcontinuouslearning andimprovement of policies and procedures.You will work closely with others who have a responsibility for compliance, quality measures and risk identification processesensuring seamless working across departments.
You will also bring excellentwritten and spokencommunicationand have stronginterpersonal skills,whichenableyou to deliver trainingto others and to foster a culture of integrityaround compliance. You willbuild trusted relationships across the organisation whilemaintainingindependence and objectivityin your own role, having the confidence to speak up if change is needed or processes and practice needs to change.
